Cronimet has been mining chromite ore at the Thaba mine since 2011. The annual output is 250.000 tonnes from a depth of up to 35 metres.
Approach
Advisian was engaged to perform a number of environmental impact assessments (four processes for phase 1 to 4) and environmental compliance monitoring for the mine operations.
Our environmental specialists developed an environmental impact assessment (EIA) which included extensive stakeholder engagement and community upliftment programmes. Subsequently, Advisian was awarded the contract to manage the environmental compliance on site and implement an ISO14001:2004 management system.
Results
In addition to the environmental approvals being issued in record time, all assessments and monitoring were carried out to international standards including International Finance Corporation and Equator Principle standards.
